Here's what people are saying about us!
David Campbell - United States - May 2018
I recently returned home to Maine from a Northern Alberta Spring Black Bear Hunting adventure with Alberta Wildland Outfitting. I had successfully Elk hunted with Nathan a few years earlier when he invited me back to Bear Hunt with he and his father, Paul Johnson. Paul is an accomplished hunter-outfitter who has traveled and hunted all over the world.
Life’s events delayed my return but it was well worth the wait. I invited two close friends and fellow contractors from Ohio to join me, both Shelby and Grady were equally excited to accept and the three of us were booked a year in advance, openings fill up fast. Nathan kept us informed of what we needed to do and what to expect, which had us pumped for the opportunity. After months of planning, May 2018 finally came. We made the exciting journey to Alberta where we were greeted by guide Terry Doerksen at the Grande Prairie Airport, where we were taken to dinner and to our hotel. The next morning, Terry picked us up and drove us to Bear camp where we were greeted by a Paul, Nathan and Jil.
After getting set up in our comfortable accommodations, we had camp-hunt orientation and met three other hunters from New Zealand. It was a pleasure to share our adventure with the “Kiwis”! Paul and Nathan’s professional knowledge sent us to stands that first evening with confidence and great anticipation for the next six days of hunting. That first evening hunt was eventful, with two beautiful 6’ plus bears taken by Scott and Grady, with several others sited.
Alberta allows each hunter two bear tags if you so desire and I took both of mine on day two, on the same hunt! It’s an unbelievable rush to have three mature bears at 20 yards at the same time, and they know you are there! I saw five bears that evening and I’m sure they were all over 6’. Also on day two, Greg took a beautiful bear from a blind. On day three, Grady took his second nice bear and Scott took a trophy Gray Wolf.
On day four, Shelby got his first bear, it was taken on a morning hunt. That evening, Chris Harris (Harry), got the bear of a lifetime, taking a 370 lb -7’8” pumpkinhead boar!
Congratulations “Poor Old Harry”! Day five both Greg and Shelby got very impressive second bears, again over 6’ with beautiful quality coats as well.
I cannot say enough about the knowledge and work ethic of outfitter- guides Paul and Nathan and guide Terry, and their desire to send everyone home (over the top) Happy. The behind the scenes work of Ed and apprentice guide Tony, made our stay complete. And last but certainly not forgotten, Paul’s wife Jil, Jil is an angel! She had food and drink in front of you every time you sat down. We never ate the same thing twice, it was like having a personal chef at a five star resort. I was never hungry, Thank you Jil!
If you are looking for a wilderness Spring Black Bear Hunt of a lifetime, look no further than Alberta Wildland Outfitting. I will be back.

Thank you very much to Paul and all the guys at Alberta Wildland Outfitting. Had a 6 day hunt with 5 friends for black bear and what can I say … WOW! Such a fantastic hunt from the moment we got to camp to the minute we left we were welcomed like we knew the guys for years! And all 6 of us tagged out taking 12 black bears! If you are into shops this isn’t for you. This is real hunting with real hunters that love what they do and its in the wild! Perfect guys and where’s Terry? Ha Ha!

In the spring of 2015 myself and a couple of friends had the opportunity to go hunt with the outfitter Paul Johnson and Alberta Wildland Outfitting. That is nothing I will ever regret or forget…. There were six of us and we had twelve bear tags between us. The expectations were high, but I could never think that it would be this good!!!! Everything and then I mean everything, was well organized and planned. We lived in a really nice camp by the river with all the facilities you need and more. Paul’s wife Jill spoiled us all with her cooking, never any empty plates there…. So I’ll know that I speak for us all if I say that everything was a 100% though true!!! And by the way, did I say that we all tagged out, meaning we all shot our bears!!! Twelve of them , and I know that Paul will have some for you as well…. Thank you Paul for a fantastic time !!!!
