BEAR HUNTS
Mature black bears in Northern Alberta will average 6 to 61/2 feet , weighing 250 to 300 lbs. They have a good range of color from blonde to cinnamon & chocolate. Bears emerge from their dens in mid-April with a beautiful winter fur and in search of food. With Alberta’s two bear limit most of our hunters walk away with two great bears! 50% of the bears taken in 2013were Pope and Young! Baiting is our primary method of hunting. Baiting gives us the ability to draw bears from surrounding non-hunting areas. Bait sites are set and maintained throughout the season We maintain trail cameras to be sure that our baits are in areas that are drawing the bears and also to give us an idea of the size of bears hitting our baits. We use tree stands so most of the archery and rifle shots are close range, 25 yards or less. It is not uncommon to have numerous bears visiting one bait site.
